DIORAMA – April 2015
a mostly monthly newsletter
for members of O’Hanlon Center for the Arts
From the Board President:
We are sad to announce that beloved longtime member Elinor Severinghaus passed away on March 16th after a long illness. She was a watercolorist, teacher, wife, mother, and world traveler. Her book with Suzi Martin, “According to Ann,” collected Ann O’Hanlon’s teachings. Each time she saw a new show in the Loft or O’Hanlon galleries, Elinor’s comments were thoughtful and perceptive. She expressed immense appreciation for others’ creativity and possessed great insight into the wellsprings of creativity. We took over a bouquet of red and yellow tulips to her husband, John, and told him it is our intention is to honor her in a lasting way here at the Center.
Joan Sadler wrote a poem on Elinor’s 90th birthday with final lines that caught Elinor’s interest in Zen Buddhism and the freshness of her vision:
“So as you go out and look at your world,
Pretend you’ve not see it before;
Just stop still and spy at what catches your eye,
And the moment will open the door.”
Elinor’s memorial service will be at 12 Noon on May 9th at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin, 240 Channing Way, San Rafael. All are invited. Bring pot-luck to share, if you wish. Please RSVP to email@example.com
A collection of Elinor’s art is available at www.elinorsoeuvre.com and the full obituary can be viewed here: www.legacy.com/obituaries/marinij/obituary.aspx?n=elinor-peck-severinghaus&pid=174415151

SUMMER ARTISTS’ RETREAT
The next open O’Hanlon Artists’ retreat will be July 27-31.
This is a 5-day opportunity for artists to work independently but in the company of other dedicated artists. This is not a workshop, and there will be no instruction. What there will be is an opportunity for serious, self-directed artists to work in a quiet atmosphere for a sustained period of time, working together but independently in the spirit of creativity.
Limited space is available; please contact the office for more information.
