As the Fall Season approaches, we witness Nature changing her colors, presenting us with a abundant array of shades & textures. For our November 2018 “Feast of Color” exhibit, we invite Artists to submit their vibrantly colored works, in all media forms, including 3D/sculptural works. All artwork should represent color as its central focus, and ideally, transmit the artist’s regard for the color(s) used. Artwork may be a single color, or include boundless colors. Once the full exhibit is installed… it will be a true Feast of Color!

Contemporary, expressionistic, abstract, exploratory, and/or experimental entries encouraged.

About the Juror: Leslie Allen

Leslie Allen is an abstract painter, art teacher and cellist in Sausalito.  She is represented by Seager/Gray Gallery in Mill Valley, and her prints are published by Art Brokers Inc in San Rafael.  Since moving to her studio in the Industrial Center Building 30 years ago, Allen’s work has evolved from tightly-rendered still life and landscapes in watercolor, to fiercely expressive abstract and figurative paintings in oil and mixed media.

In recent years she studied aquatints at Crown Point Press, and her later paintings and collages reflect her love of printmaking techniques.  Allen has exhibited in many one-person and group shows, and her paintings are widely collected. Allen has served on a handful of art councils, boards and commissions, and she is a founding member of the vibrant ICB Artists Association.  Her experience as an art juror includes two international art exhibits in recent years, and many local shows since the early ‘90s.  Leslie Allen’s passion for color in art, music and life is undisputed, and her enthusiasm for painting is contagious.

O’Hanlon Center for the Arts invites you to submit work for our October 2018 Exhibit: “From Dusk ‘til Dawn”  The time from Sunset to Sunrise begins and ends with a transition of light… and reveals the nightscapes, with lights both naturally occurring (celestial, fire, phosphorescence) as well as human made (electric, neon, LED). How do you visually describe the dark of night? You may perhaps use greys and midnight blues leading into amber and burnt orange… or other evocative color combinations. We look forward to seeing how you reveal the feeling and moods of this in-between time… when mystery and wonder hide in the shadows.

Contemporary, expressionistic, abstract, exploratory, and/or experimental entries encouraged.

About the Juror: David Harris

While David Harris is most widely known for his illustrious career as a writer, journalist and political advocate, he has been creating his own artwork for fifty years. He has written extensively for the New York Times, Rolling Stone, and other periodicals, as well as authoring seven major nonfiction books on diverse subjects.

Of his recent exhibit at Throckmorton Theatre’s Crescendo Gallery, spanning fifty years’ worth of artwork, he says he has been “painting for the love of creating form from blank surfaces, addressing only an audience of one, satisfying my eye alone, thrilled at the outcome for its own sake.  All of these pictures have been generated by my imagination, recreating an image that has suddenly appeared in my mind’s eye rather than reflecting the ‘reality’ around us—portraits of an emotional rather than a physical truth.”

O’Hanlon Center for the Arts invites you to submit work for our 15th Annual Wabi-Sabi Exhibition.

“…celebrating the simple, the rustic, the unassuming; the dignity of things imperfect,

uncontrolled and incomplete; the transient beauty of the natural world…”

When seeking to understand Wabi-Sabi, it is helpful to contemplate the idea that beauty is inherent in a simple object, which in turn evokes a quiet, thoughtful mood and atmosphere. The emphasis of this exhibit will be not on the final perfected form of the work, but on how well pieces reflect a sense and feeling of this elusive concept. In particular, focus will be on the imaginative use of natural materials that may include found objects.

Please see the Wabi-Sabi portion of the OHCA website for inspiration and more resources: ohanloncenter.org/wabi-sabi/

We’re also holding two Wabi-Sabi related workshops in August:
