June 2010
Message from Michael Tarnoff, Board President: You’ll notice new printouts in the Loft and Gallery entitled: Helpful Ways to Reduce Your Taxes while Helping Others: A Checklist for Tax Smart Charitable Gifts. Included in this resource guide is information on ways to reduce income taxes such as: The 50 Percent Factor, Give and Get, and Roth Conversion. Also included are ways to reduce estate taxes. Take a look and please feel free to contact me by phone: (415) 388-4331, or by email at miket@LDSI.cc with any questions. As always, please do also consult with your tax counsel before acting upon these suggestions. Remember that tax laws change yearly; so see your tax counsel before December to reduce taxes in 2010.
Another way to give back to O’Hanlon is by inviting friends to join you at events you attend here. Share what you love about this place with those in your community that you feel would love it, too! It would make a real difference if all 170 members asked 5 of their friends to attend programs, enter exhibitions, join, or support us with a donation.
2010 Summer Solstice Party: This year members will coordinate on their own for a potluck get together, inviting friends and family. The event is free, and will run from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 26. Final plans should be run by the office.
Volunteer Opportunities: OHCA needs your help! We are planning a Silent Art Auction for Saturday, July 24 from 3 to 6 p.m. Are you available to help stage and install pieces for display? Do you have time to share information about membership and encourage people to join, and take classes? This will be a fun, family-friendly event and 100% of the proceeds go toward supporting the Center.

Members in the News: Congratulations to `Lyn Follett, who was named Marin Poet Laureate for 2010-2012! Not only will she be rushing around as an ambassador for poetry, but she will be developing various programs, readings and interactions around Marin in an effort to bring more people to the love of poetry and what poetry can do for each of us.
Find out why `Lyn was awarded this honor by listening to some of her fabulous poems at the Wabi Sabi Poetry Reading on Thursday, June 10 at 7 p.m. There is a $5 suggested donation. Other readers will be O'Hanlon Center members and poets Duff Axsom, Karen Benke, Dick Brown, Abby Wasserman and Bernie Weiner.
