Holiday Bookbinding Workshop for returning students w/ DEREK BACCHUS

To all previous students of Derek Bacchus’s O’Hanlon bookbinding workshops in 2018 who would like to make more books as holiday gifts or stocking stuffers, please come to the December 9th open studio from 10:00 to 4:00. You can have hands-on advice to refresh your technical knowledge, or just to work alongside other bookbinders for a day of community and making. Bring your own beautiful papers and tools, with many extra tools on hand. Make Buttonhole books, Single-signature style books, Accordion books, French link stitch or Butterfly link stitch books, Coptic books (leather or wooden), or leather Long Stitch books. (No materials fee; bring your own beautifully selected materials). Wine included.

Facilitator: Derek Bacchus is a publishing consultant, creative director, designer, photographer, educator, and bookbinder. He has been a magazine art director for a number of titles, including the Wine Spectator, a book publishing design director at Allworth Press, and most recently Chief Product Officer and Publisher at the children’s edtech startup, Know Yourself, in downtown Oakland.
He taught for nearly twenty years, including design history at Parsons School of Design and The Cooper Union (New York); 2-D Design, Information Design and a Senior Seminar in Alphabets and Books at Cooper Union; and bookbinding at the Pont-Aven School of Art in Brittany, France. He has design degrees from Parsons School of Design, and The Yale School of Art.
