Writing & Adventure
For ages 9 to 14
Kids, summer, creativity and fun—a great combination! The Summer Art Atelier Camp is designed to provide kids with a fun, creative, educational and enriching experience. Through art, yoga, games, group projects, and relaxation time, students will be encouraged to strengthen their body, mind, and spirit in a non-competitive, nurturing, and supportive environment. Students will work cooperatively, nurturing their inner artist, each session will create lasting memories, foster new friendships, and build upon a foundation of health and radiant well-being.
During each session, we will create an intimate atelier experience. Students will learn to prepare their own surfaces, stretch their our own canvases, learn how to gesso paper or canvas and prepare drawing papers with chalks or water colors in order to used silverpoint. We’ll do some artistic foraging by exploring how natural, local resources can create pigments with things such as the soil, spinach, or egg shells. Students will be introduced to traditional techniques of drawing and painting and explore ways to work in oil paints and other mediums.
Working both individually and in groups according to age, participants will be guided by instructors including a professional writer Amy Novesky, a yoga and fitness instructor Amy Naber and artist Melissa Parhm. The influence of this instruction will help bring balance between art and form.
