DESCRIPTION

Stretch, get out of your comfort zone and submit to O’Hanlon’s first collaborative show!

Find an art partner or two (or three) and get to work:

Collaborative arts practice involves artists working closely together, often over extended periods of time, to make art. It harnesses the experiences and skills of each person taking part to give meaning and creative expression to the project.

Collaboration builds comradeship as artists move toward a common goal. Often it results in the transfer of technical skills and knowledge from one artist to another. Two or more people working together create something entirely different than each person working alone. It is a symbiosis that results in a new type of work entirely.

Today there are many examples of collaborative art projects in public art and large festivals. Existing works can be enhanced and changed into something completely new through the generative experience of mutual creativity.

Ways of collaborating are as unique as the individuals involved in the project. When Jennifer and Stephen work together, this means discussing each phase of the work, and executing each step in tandem. Cynthia and Stephen have developed a unique vocabulary to avoid inadvertently doing violence to the other person’s vision.

Stephen, who is also a musician, likens the process to musical jamming. Cynthia thinks of it as a cross-pollination. No matter what the process, the result is often unpredictable but always fascinating.

Additional Important Details:

Each submitted work must be created by at least 2 people, and one person cannot claim more than 75% of the work.

Artists can collaborate with as many other artists as they would like.

Up to 3 works by the same collaborative team can be submitted.

Each collaborative teams pays a submission fee of $30 for members and $40 for non-members. If an artist wants to work with multiple teams, they are welcome to submit up to 3 works from each team. A separate submission fee will apply.

Each collaborative team should bring a short written description of their collaborative process. This document should be submitted at time of art drop-off, before the jury process begins.

Size Restriction: Wall hanging pieces limited to 48” wide and 60” tall.

Contemporary, exploratory, and/or experimental entries encouraged. 


MEDIA

All Media, including 3D/Sculptural works

• Open to all artists aged 16 and over.
• Works previously displayed in the O’Hanlon Gallery are not eligible.

ART PREPARATION

• All work must be ready for display. Paint, glue, etc. must be dry!
• Max size for wall pieces: 48” wide and 60″ tall
  
• Wall hung pieces must be securely wired.
• Label all work with Artist’s name & Contact
• Bring resume and/or artist statement, if desired. (2 pages max.)

Please hand-deliver (no digital submissions) the pieces to be juried to:

We will have a NEW submission form just for this exhibit, which you may fill out in person when you drop off your artwork.

Please note Entry Dates/Times carefully. Late delivery of artwork is not allowed.

GALLERY POLICIES/REQUIREMENTS
In-Person Gallery Exhibits

By submitting artwork to be considered for any Exhibition, Artist understands and agrees to the following:

• Participants: Open to all artists age 16 and over.
• Artwork Eligibility: Works previously shown in the O'Hanlon or Loft Galleries (in-person shows) are not eligible for other in-person shows. The same pieces may be considered for an Online show.
• Artwork Size: Maximum 48" width for wall hung pieces, including any frame. No height limits for most exhibits. (Note: Size limits may vary for specific exhibits – check the individual Call for Entries for details.)
• Exhibit Curation: For most exhibits, not all artists will have artwork selected for showing. Final artwork selections are up to the Exhibit Juror(s) and/or Installer/curator, both of which vary from show to show.
• Exhibit Timeline: Accepted work must remain on view for the duration of the exhibition.
• Liability/Insurance: While all reasonable care is taken with submitted artwork, OHCA strongly recommends that exhibiting artists carry their own insurance. OHCA and representatives will not assume any liability for any damage or loss.
• Artwork Sales: Buyers will pay Artist directly for any art sales. Artist agrees to contact OHCA of this sale and make a donation to OHCA of 30% of the sale price, on all sales of artwork within the first 60 days of the exhibition. This includes all artwork exhibited in an OHCA Gallery, in an online OHCA website gallery, and facilitated by OHCA. Donations to OHCA are tax-deductible to the extent permissible by law.
• Artwork Pricing: Artwork does not need to be for sale. You may mark a piece as NFS (Not For Sale) or POR (Price on Request.)
• Publicity: By submitting work, artists agree that photographic images and/or video of the artist and/or their artwork, in whole or in part, may be used by OHCA for publicity in various forms including print, online and social media.
• Newsletter: Artists agree to be added to the O'Hanlon Center Newsletter mailing list, and may unsubscribe at any time.
