SUMMARY:Monoprinting with Candis Cousins
DESCRIPTION:Monoprinting is a playful\, exploratory process requiring neither a press nor a background in art\n \nOn a plate of gel or plexiglass\, images are made with paint\, rollers\, sponges\, netting\, leaves or anything else which might create an interesting pattern. The focus is not upon the finished work but upon the experience of discovery and making art. \nIn the workshop\, after two or three hours\, the group gathers to discuss what has been created.  The purpose of the discussion is to help each person recognize the beauty in their work. Or\, in the words of Ann O’Hanlon\, our purpose is “to look upon a seemingly random work of our own with interest” and with “the same fulfillment… experienced on an unknown wilderness trail.” \n Some Sundays\, 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.\n$60 | $50 OHCA members + \n$10 materials fee paid to facilitator on day of workshop \n6 people MAX \n\nAbout Candis Cousins \nCandis Cousins first came to the Center in 1972. Ann O’Hanlon was alive and at that time the Center was called ‘Sight and Insight.’ On Candis’ first day\, Ann’s suggestion for working was this: “Every decision you make\, try to make the wrong decision.” \nIn 2002\, Candis returned to OHCA to join the mono printing group led by Cayen Robertson and Karen Cox. In her own work\, Candis tries to keep moving forward without a plan\, just to see what comes. \n  \n“It is such an invigorating\, soul-finding experience to facilitate this workshop. A love-fest\, a laugh-fest on the high seas of creativity!” \n– Candis \n

DESCRIPTION:Perception Workshops Description\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The Perception Workshops at O’Hanlon welcome all artists and the art-curious. Rather than focusing on formal principles or strict rules\, these workshops emphasize curiosity\, exploration\, and creative play. They spark imagination by encouraging learning through doing\, observation\, acceptance\, and practice. Participants are supported in taking risks\, experimenting freely\, and developing their own visual language in an open\, encouraging environment. \nEach session begins with a simple prompt or exercise. From there\, participants may build on their initial ideas or take them in entirely new directions. At the end\, the group comes together to share discoveries through looking\, reflection\, and discussion\, celebrating the process as much as the result. \nMost materials are provided\, but participants are welcome to bring their own. \nCost: \n\n$30.00 Non-members\n$25.00 Members or Members can purchase a 10x card for $200\n$5.00 Materials fee\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Tuesday Perception\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n $25.00 – $30.00Price range: $25.00 through $30.00 \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n \n \n \n Member/Non-Member\n \n Choose an optionNon-memberOHCA MemberClear \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n \n\n \n \n \n	\n	\n Tuesday Perception Workshop 2026 quantity\n	\n	\n\n	Add to cart

She studied Fine Art at California State University East Bay\, and embroidery with the Embroiderers Guild of America and San Francisco School of Needlework and Design.  She has been teaching embroidery for 10 years at the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design and independently all over the Bay Area. Her piece called “Balance” toured the United States and Canada as part of the 2 year Sixteenth National Exhibit with the Embroiderers Guild of America. She has won numerous awards including “Best in Show” at the California State Fair in Sacramento. \nWhile Laura’s first love is doing embroidery\, her very close second is teaching embroidery. She developed her skills teaching and designing classes at the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design and now has a decade of teaching experience. She loves bringing this ancient healing art to students. \nLaura is also a biochemist with 32 years experience at Chiron/Novartis working in early stage drug discovery research for Oncology\, Infectious Diseases\, and Diagnostics. She brings this scientific and experimental mind to her Embroidery work. \nLaura once believed that art had to be framed in a gallery\, and sold to be ‘art’. In art school she pondered the question ‘what is art?’ After thinking about this for many years\, her personal answer is ‘art is communication’. Laura wears the clothes she has been embroidering on for years – her wearable art – and realized that this is a form of communication with everyone around her. It was a profound revelation for her to realize that she was already a successful artist. \nVisit her website: lauratandeske.com
